8x8 Virtual Office Enterprise Delivers Hosted VoIP to Enterprise Environments

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

A recent industry event offered a platform for new business announcements, including one from 8x8 Inc., a provider of 8x8 (News - Alert) Virtual Office and Packet8 broadband business, residential, video and mobile communications services.

The company announced the availability of an enterprise version of its hosted IP PBX (News - Alert) phone service suited for deployment in larger organizations. This latest solution is designed to fit in a variety of environments, including a single building, a campus or distributed across multiple locations.

Positioned as the latest generation of 8x8’s broadband agnostic hosted IP PBX business phone solutions, 8x8 Virtual Office Enterprise offers features, flexibility and economics of hosted VoIP to enterprise environments at a time when economic conditions are forcing CIOs and CFOs to seek new ways to reduce operating expenditures.

While premise-based PBX phone systems generally require a significant financial investment plus management and maintenance resources, Virtual Office Enterprise instead is designed to be a complete business phone solution that will deliver advanced PBX calling features. The solution also eliminates the need for expensive on-site equipment as it offers these features combined with cost-effective IP dial tone service.

"Core enhancements to the Virtual Office hosted PBX platform and additional redundancy in our network now enable us to offer this solution to larger organizations that are analyzing the cost and functionality of their current telecommunications infrastructure alongside a requirement for high quality, availability and redundancy from this mission critical service," said 8x8 Chairman & CEO Bryan Martin (News - Alert), in a Monday statement.

To meet the critical performance requirements of large corporations, the 8x8 Virtual Office Enterprise solution provides high availability, quality and redundancy. 8x8 recently upgraded its service infrastructure, which included deploying a new triple redundant architecture across three independent data centers with each center connected to redundant IP access providers.

As a result of this new architecture, companies that experience a failure of any software component, server, cluster or even a complete data center failure will not experience an impact on the service to the end customer.

"We are very pleased with the roll out of our new network and application design," said 8x8 Vice President of Service Delivery & Support Mehdi Salour (News - Alert), in the Monday statement.

"Our services are now designed to be more reliable than ever and the addition of multiple connections to several different tier one access providers will enable us to provide even higher quality services to our customers."

Smaller companies across various industries have discovered the benefits that hosted VoIP solutions can provide. Until now, it was difficult to deploy such a solution in the enterprise environment, especially when so many companies had the infrastructure already in place for on-premise solutions.

Now, 8x8 is offering a solution that allows these larger organizations to take advantage of the benefits that hosted VoIP can offer, without the risk associated with solutions designed for smaller businesses. The financial timing is right. The real question is – will CFOs and CIOs make the change?
