TelstraClear to Monitor Voice Services with RADCOM Omni-Q Voice

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

TelstraClear, a subsidiary of Australian telecom Telstra, has tapped RADCOM in order to enhance the quality of its service. The telecom opted to deploy RADCOM's Omni-Q voice service quality monitoring system in five of its New Zealand locations to monitor, analyze and troubleshoot the performance of its national and international services.

RADCOM's Omni-Q VoIP monitoring system allows service providers, ILECs and cable/MSOs to be able to detect irregularities in their VoIP service when it's running over the network. This enables the network administrator to troubleshoot, therefore leading to a quicker and easier fault resolution.

"Omni-Q's open and modular architecture allows us to cover our current network testing and monitoring needs without sacrificing long-term flexibility, and also enables full integration with third-party solutions," said TelstraClear's GM of Operations William Lee in a statement released on Tuesday.

TelstraClear is most likely deploying RADCOM's Omni-Q voice because the company is getting ready to launch a triple-play offering called Unplugged that combines voice, broadband and mobile communications in the city of Tauranga. The company plans to launch the service next July. The offering will also include an Internet telephony service that will allow customers to keep their current telephone numbers.

TelstraClear plans to initially sign customers up at retail stores throughout the city of Tauranga. The offering would serve more than 100,000 household and business customers in the city.

The company had announced a multi-million dollar partnership with Ericsson (News - Alert) to build the new wireless network for Unplugged in Tauranga last month. The contract specifically called for Ericsson to design, integrate and build the network, including service layer, core and radio access. Telstra Australia had tapped Ericsson as its exclusive 3G/WCDMA partner for up to the next five years.

"We will be introducing proven technology that delivers phone calls, broadband, mobile and more. It will be simple, portable and easy to use and unlike anything New Zealanders have seen before," stated TelstraClear's chief executive Dr. Allan Dr Freeth.

Today's announcement comes on the heels of RADCOM's news about being tapped by Canadian VoIP service provider Comwave Telecom to also deploy the company's Omni-Q system, which will continuously collect, monitor and analyze the service's voice quality and traffic performance. As part of the agreement, Comwave will deploy RADCOM's R70, a probe powered by the Gear Set, RADCOM's processing engine. The R70 is LINUX-based and it monitors data processing at a rate of up to 10 Gbps.
