AT&T Inks Networking Contract with National Law Firm

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

In a move to consolidate its telecommunication services across offices throughout the country, Jenner & Block, a national law firm called upon AT&T.

A new, three-year contract, announced on Tuesday, calls for the telecom to provide the law firm with AT&T's (News - Alert) Business Network (ABN) integrated services and a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network. The new network will consolidate Jenner & Block's telecommunications across its offices in Chicago, Dallas, New York, and Washington, DC.

AT&T's ABN system is comprised of data, Internet, local, long distance and international voice services. ABN customers can customize the service and monitor network performance online.

MPLS technology allows for the creation of an IP virtual private network, which provides the client with better security. MPLS technology also eases the migration to VoIP services.

"We are pleased with the flexibility offered by AT&T's solutions. It will allow us to quickly create connectivity with our other offices with the added security of data integrity and confidentiality we need to best serve our clients," said Jenner & Block's chief information officer Melvin Ostrow in a statement.

AT&T made news yesterday when it announced that architecture firm Bucher, Willis & Ratliff (BWR) tapped the telecom as its provider of VoIP services. The companies announced a new, two-year contract they just inked, which will provide all BWR locations including its headquarters in Kansas City, MO and its other seven locations across the country with IP-based telephony services.

The new contract calls for AT&T to serve as BWR's primary network and data services provider, integrating the telecom's Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Private Network Transport (PNT) service.

AT&T MPLS PNT will enable BWR to integrate VoIP technologies and applications for better transmission of large data files across the company’s network. The system will also enable the company to deliver time-sensitive voice and data files in a speedy fashion.

With the new system in place, all BWR's locations will be connected into a consolidated network. AT&T's MPLS backbone offers increased bandwidth, which will enable BWR transfer large files between all of its connected locations, therefore streamlining the company’s migration to VoIP.
