Vonage Hooks Up Nets' Press Room with V-Phones

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

VoIP service provider Vonage announced on Thursday that it will act as the title sponsor of the Nets’ media press room at the Continental Airlines Arena and the Nets Practice facility. Vonage (News - Alert) will provide V-Phones for members of the media covering the Nets at the event.

Vonage’s V-Phone is a mobile phone and 256mb flash drive that makes it possible to place calls from any PC or laptop.

“This is a slam-dunk for Vonage,” the company’s CEO, Mike Snyder, said in a statement. “We are excited to be outfitting the press covering our home-state's team with our V-Phone.

Snyder added: “This is a great opportunity for us to highlight how well Vonage's V-Phone works for people who are on the go. We look forward to supporting the Nets and their press corps around the nation with our feature-rich broadband phone service.”

The press room sponsorship will also let Vonage set up a signage area and a central area for Vonage representatives to assist the press in getting started with the service; as well as hang up promotion banners. Vonage will also have presence on the “Press Row” area in order to connect all branding surrounding the media.

Vonage will act as the Presenting Sponsor of the Nets Basketball through the year 2009. Partnering with the Nets on its “Bring It” Campaign, will mean that Vonage will receive a dominant placement on all of the Nets marketing assets. The campaign will also include a billboard in Times Square, outdoor advertising throughout Northern New Jersey and signage at various train stations throughout the state.

“Our goal is to create value for our partners and we appreciate that Vonage recognizes the opportunities in becoming the title sponsor for the Nets' press rooms in the nation's number one media market,” stated Nets' CEO Brett Yormark, in a statement.

Today's news follow's Vonage’s announcement this week about its new service that will enable customers to know if the ground they are about to dig is safe to break in before they even grab their shovels.

The VoIP service provider announced Monday that it will now allow its subscribers to dial 811 via their Vonage-enabled phones to access a call center which will offer free information about whether it is safe to dig in certain areas. This will help the customers' efforts to dig safely when wanting to build a new addition to their property such as a swimming pool or a new deck.

Once the subscriber dials 811, the call is then routed from Vonage's network to a local call center. Once the center receives the call, the local utility company local to the area is notified about the inquiry. Once the local utility company has received the inquiry, it marks the approximate location of their underground utilities, therefore informing Vonage customers of any pipes or cables present if any in the area they are trying to dig.
