Moshi Debuts New Interactive Voice Response Alarm Clock

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Moshi, a division of SnS International, has unveiled a new Moshi IVR (interactive voice response) alarm clock that features TimeSet technology.

The Moshi IVR alarm clock is the first touch free clock, which can set both time and alarm by voice. Based on latest IVR technology, the user can control this clock through spoken commands. The user will have to just say "Hello Moshi," and the clock will respond with, "Command Please" thereby initiating the commands. The clock has the capability to carry out instructions to any of the 12 voice activated commands.

Moshi said that each Moshi IVR alarm clock can recognize every user's voice right out of the box without any pre-programming. The IVR technology that is used in Moshi IVR alarm clock leverages on a hybrid model of Neural Net and HMM Phonetic Speaker Independent (SI) Recognition software. This combination facilitates in recognizing large vocabularies and is highly accurate, noise robust and as well capable of accommodating a wide variety of accents.

The Moshi IVR alarm clock can be used by anyone who is seeking simplicity in their busy lives. The World Blind Union has officially endorsed the Moshi IVR Alarm Clock because of its ease of use via verbal commands that will benefit the blind community, said the company.

Some of the voice activated commands featuring inside the clock include: time; set time; set alarm; alarm sound ( with 3 choices); turn of the alarm; sleep sound ( with 3 choices of sound); play sleep sound ( plays 5 minutes of sleep sound and 3 minutes for Travel size); today’s date; temperature; night light; and help for menu assistance.

Advanced features such as word spotting, phrase spotting, and continuous recognition work together with the help of the software, in order to eliminate the limitations of discrete word command-and-control. This creates a more natural user interface. The clock uses moderate amounts of memory, power, and virtually needs no CPU resources.

"We are excited about this product's revolutionary technology that brings added convenience and comfort to our customers' daily lives," said Michael Nostrant, CEO of SnS International, in a statement. "Whether it is the ease of setting the alarm from bed or asking for the time while working across the room, we have designed this alarm clock to work with you to make your life a little bit easier."

Moshi said that its products apply advanced technology to home appliances in a user-friendly fashion and creates solutions for everyday problems.
