Euphonix Selects Polycom for HD Voice Phone System

By Kelly McGuire, TMCnet Editor

Polycom, a provider of telepresence, video, and voice communications solutions, has announced it was selected along with 3CX, to provide a state-of-the-art voice communications system for Euphonix.

Polycom’s (News - Alert) President and CTO, Jeffrey Rodman, is currently in Los Angeles attending and presenting at TMC’s ITEXPO West. Rodman is one of the speakers at both the “HD Voice and Wideband Codecs” and “Pushing the Envelope with HD Voice: A State-of-the-Industry Panel Discussion” sessions.

Additionally, the company’s VP Industry Solutions & Chief Collaboration Officer, Bob Preston, is also presenting at the conference during “The Stimulus and Vertical Markets” session, which will discuss the Federal stimulus package and its relativity to the telecom industry.

With Euphonix’s recent headquarter move, the company said it needed to update its traditional phone system to VoIP. Andor Izsak, Euphonix’s IT director, said that, while browsing for possible suppliers, he found Polycom’s systems to be cost effective and versatile.

“I realized that one commonality among most of the vendor offerings was Polycom conference phones,” said Izsak, “everyone was looking for the best possible sound quality for their conferencing needs, and Polycom clearly fit the bill.”

Izsak said he came across two Polycom phone systems suited for the company’s needs: Polycom SoundPoint IP desktop phones and Polycom SoundStation IP conference phones, both of which feature Polycom HD Voice.

The company also selected 3CX, developer of the 3CX Phone System, as their VoIP provider.

Izask said 3CX’s options were complimentary to Polycom’s VoIP systems, and would offer Euphonix the flexibility it sought after for an upgrade.
According to Izask, it made the most economical sense to select Polycom phones from a sound quality perspective and then partner with a third-party software vendor for an affordable and flexible IP-PBX (News - Alert).

“The build quality and the sound quality of the Polycom products were both significantly better than any of the others I evaluated,” said Izask, who went on to say that the Polycom phones offer the best mix of usability, software integration, and the voice quality at a price level that Euphonix could afford.

In a more financially conservative upgrade, Izask predicted that Polycom and 3CX’s new services will save the company an estimated $100,000 in the first year of use.

"Polycom is clearly the market leader when it comes to top-notch, HD communications. Next up for Euphonix is telepresence,” said Izask, who predicts the company will look to add visual communications to its network later in 2009.
