ShoreTel Emphasizes UC Ease of UseBy Paula Bernier, Executive Editor, IP Communications Magazines A few years ago, nobody knew what UC was.
However, increasingly, there’s a greater sense that UC matters. But for unified communications to become more widespread, it must be extremely intuitive for the user. That’s why ShoreTel (News - Alert) put a heavy emphasis on ease-of-use in designing its UC solution, according to ShoreTel CEO John Combs (News - Alert), who will address the ITEXPO West audience today in a 4:30 p.m. keynote.
“The ShoreTel UC system was built from the ground up for IP networks, and is designed to be brilliantly simple to deploy, manage and use,” Combs said. “From day one, we focused on taking out complexity and meeting business needs with features and functionality that are easy for end-users to adopt.”
Kevin Gavin, vice president of marketing at ShoreTel, which sells an IP PBX (News - Alert) with built-in call center and UC capabilities, adds that for any technology to gain widespread use “the learning curve has to be instant.”
ShoreTel believes it has “cracked that nut,” he added, noting that 80 percent of ShoreTel customers actually use the UC functionality. “Everybody gets it,” he said.
