PingTone Contributes to IC2N VoIP Network
By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor
PingTone Communications has reportedly acknowledged their contribution to the world’s largest secure VoIP network-- the Iraq Command and Control Network known as IC2N.
The IC2N is a large fully meshed secure network that provides secure and non-secure voice and data services to the Iraq Ministry of the Interior. The project began operation in November 2004 to connect the major cities of Iraq using a robust private communications system for supporting Interim Iraqi Elections in January 2005.
Coalition forces transitioned control of IC2N directly to the Iraq Ministry of the Interior in late January 2007. The Command and Control Network now links various MOI sections together and allow both trusted IP phone conversations as well as secure email.
These high security functions are powered by advanced BorderGuard encryption devices. Due to the fully meshed secure voice capabilities, individual sites can talk via secure IP phone to any other site, not just a central headquarters facility. Seeing its capabilities, MOI has kept the network relatively unchanged following the transition.
“PingTone continues to take great pride in supporting Coalition and Iraqi personnel using IC2N to help accomplish their important ongoing mission,” said PingTone vice president of Service Operations Robyn Smith in a press release.
Companies involved in the IC2N include Loral Skynet satellite services, PingTone hosted Cisco IP phone services, Blue Ridge Networks BorderGuard encryption systems, and Proactive Communications technology support services.
PingTone Communications provides hosted Cisco IP phone service to corporate, government and military customers in the United States and internationally.
