BT continues to take on the world. Today the company announced the launch of its new managed (i.e. hosted) VoIP
service, which enables cable providers and other service providers to resell BT’s flavor of VoIP to their subscribers.
With this new service, BT is targeting service providers outside of the UK.
MEDIAN Telecom Ltd., headquartered in Bochum, Germany, is reportedly already trialing the service.
BT claims this new “service in a box” offering, called IP
Voice Managed Service, is so easy to deploy that a new entrant “can become a communication provider overnight - without the cost and complexity of having to invest in expensive IT and network infrastructure.” The service offers advanced multi-layered security, including session border controller (SBC
) functionality and VoIP firewall capabilities. A single web-based interface gives users an efficient tool to monitor call flow and control expenses. In addition it offers a flexible pricing model so that service providers can deliver just the features their customers want.
“BT IP Voice Managed Service offers communication providers a straightforward and easy-to-use platform - an ‘out-of-the-box’ solution - that simplifies the delivery of IP telephony services without huge investments or technology knowledge,” said Karsten Lereuth, president of BT Global Telecom Markets, in a press release. “We have kept this offering as simple to use as possible - any person who can work with Microsoft (

Alert) Windows can use BT IP Voice Managed Service. The whole solution is Microsoft-enabled to provide both new entrants and existing telecoms providers access to an exciting and expanding market.”
BT IP Voice Managed Service – part of a range of 21C operator services offered by the company - is now available through the BT Global Services Global Telecom Markets line of business. For more information, visit

BT made news on TMCnet yesterday when it announced the launch of its Onevoice Global virtual private network (VPN
) offering. Onevoice Global VPN helps customers more easily transition to IP telephony because they only have to deal with one supplier, one contract, and one bill, rather than separate channels for IP telephony and traditional legacy systems. Using BT’s technology, organizations can move to IP telephony at a gradual pace, while using their existing hardware.
