3Di Uses New Funds for Cloud ComputingBy Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor Tokyo-based 3Di, which develops and offers 3D Internet solutions, reportedly will use its newly-secured funding to enter the PaaS (Platform as a Service) and SaaS (News - Alert) (Software as a Service) markets. In a release the company says it will provide a 3Di platform and applications as services through cloud computing. Till now, 3Di has focused on the development and offering of 3Di OpenSim and 3Di OpenViewer. 3Di OpenSim is the server software developed for the construction of original 3D virtual worlds. The company claims it is the world's first server software specifically designed for enterprises and based on open source 3D Internet technology, OpenSim. 3Di OpenViewer is 3Di's original viewer embedded into HTML web pages that helps viewing and interacting with 3D virtual worlds in Web browsers. The company recently achieved a capital increase worth around $5 million, and is thus encouraged to expand its business offerings to include PaaS/SaaS services, such as a 3D conference system, by utilizing cloud computing. The funds will be used for other purposes -- 3Di will continue further development of virtual world functionality and expand its service line-ups to fulfill user needs. This announcement means significant savings for enterprises, which can use cloud computing services to deploy 3D virtual worlds without investing in their own hosting hardware infrastructure. 3Di hopes to increase the adoption of 3D Internet technologies by expanding its business to offer both software and cloud computing services to enterprises. Earlier this month the company announced 3Di Immersive Banner, which is reportedly the world’s first Internet advertising technology that can display and operate 3D virtual worlds in banner advertisements on Websites.
