Plantronics Expands GameCom Headset Line for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Plantronics, a provider of personal audio communications for professionals and consumers, announced the expansion of its family of wireless and corded GameCom headsets for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The new devices, the GameCom X95 Wireless Stereo headset and GameCom X40 Stereo headset for Xbox 360 users and the GameCom P90 Bluetooth headset for the PlayStation 3 are designed to enhance the gaming experiences through rich, vibrant audio, company officials said.

“We engineered the new GameCom products to give gamers what value most in a great headset: outstanding audio performance, plug-and-play simplicity and comfortable designs,” Matt Miller, senior director, Entertainment Products, Plantronics (News - Alert), said. “The mix of wireless stereo, Bluetooth and corded products also gives consumers more choices, so they can find a solution that meets their individual preference and style.”

The Plantronics GameCom X95 is a wireless gaming headset that delivers full stereo sound from 40mm speakers. Featuring a closed-ear design and intuitive on-ear controls for changing volume and audio levels, the devices allows users to “immerse themselves in games, music and movies without disturbing others.”

The GameCom X95 is notable for its sleek and modern design with a concealable mic that easily tucks into the headband when not in use. Ideally designed for long gaming sessions, the GameCom X95 can be used for more than 20 hours before replacing the included AAA batteries.

The new Plantronics GameCom X40 is a corded headset featuring the same 40mm speakers as the GameCom X95 for exceptional stereo sound. The lightweight device eliminates cumbersome in-line controls by placing separate volume and audio control buttons on the earpods. It also features specially designed cushioned earpods and headband that redistribute pressure for a great fit.

The company has also announced improved versions of the GameCom X30 and GameCom X10 corded headsets for the Xbox 360, company officials said.

Designed for PlayStation 3, the new GameCom P90 Bluetooth headset enables users to talk to friends wirelessly during gaming sessions. The device can also connect to a mobile phone, so users can choose between game chats and mobile calls while enjoying the same, crystal-clear audio, company officials said.

The GameCom P90 features QuickPair technology for easy pairing to the PlayStation 3, and includes dedicated mute volume and on/off buttons for convenience. It has a slim earloop and contoured eartip for a comfortable, secure fit. It includes a USB charging cable that connects to the PlayStation 3 system.

The new Plantronics GameCom products are currently available at www.plantronics.com. They will be available in major nationwide retail stores later this fall and Europe retailers in early 2011, the company said.

In August, Plantronics announced that its IP40 Audio Processor (News - Alert) replaces the IP desk phone, providing the same independent telephony connection for the headset at lower cost, with absolute simplicity, a tiny footprint, no extraneous features, and the lowest possible power requirement, a TMCnet report said.
