Disney Mobile to Launch Some of its Games on Zeebo System

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Disney Mobile will soon be launching many of its games on the Zeebo 3G-connected digital gaming, entertainment and education system, Zeebo recently announced.

By preventing piracy through fast and convenient shopping via secure 3G broadband wireless cellular connectivity and over-the-air delivery, the Zeebo platform fosters the development and monetization of local content. The consumer does not have to sign up for any additional service plan or contract and connectivity is provided pre-activated for the system.

Zeebo provides a casual gaming, entertainment and education platform that brings fun and learning to tomorrow’s consumers. Zeebo is now available nationwide in Brazil and Mexico, to be followed by broader rollouts in Asia and beyond.

“Disney Interactive Studios brings Disney stories and characters to life in a truly fun and engaging experience like no other," said Mike Yuen (News - Alert), senior vice president of global content and services, Zeebo, Inc. "We are proud to partner with Disney Interactive Studios to deliver its popular global brands directly into the living rooms of middle-class families in Mexico, Brazil and our future launch regions.”

With this new agreement, content delivery and user interface software updates occur over the wireless network and are completely transparent to the customer, Zeebo claims. All the users need to do is to simply plug the Zeebo into their television set and the system automatically connects to the ZeeboNet Wireless Network. Zeebo fundamentally alters the economics of interactive entertainment and learning in the developing world, opening a vast new opportunity for users and content providers.

In December 2009, Opera Software, a company that develops the Opera Web browser, a multi-platform product for a wide range of platforms, operating systems and embedded Internet products, partnered with Zeebo to enable consumers in Mexico to access entertainment, education and other relevant Web sites via a full-screen, quality Internet experience from the comfort of their home. Opera Mini's portability has helped Zeebo earn a champion title in mobile Web browsing.
