TELUS Brings BlackBerry Torch Smartphone 9800 to CanadaBy Vinti Vaid, TMCnet Contributor TELUS announced the selection of September 24th for the launch of the new BlackBerry (News - Alert) Torch 9800 smartphone on Canada’s fastest mobile network. The new BlackBerry Torch 9800 has been developed for socially connected consumers and features tools that business customers require, while the new handset has an elegant styling with top-of-the-line features and functionality. The Torch 9800 is the first smartphone designed with a BlackBerry keyboard offering a full touch screen experience and the first to offer the new BlackBerry 6.0 operating system. The new BlackBerry Torch combines a large capacitive touch screen and optical trackpad with a 35-key full QWERTY backlit slide-out keyboard, designed to feel optimally balanced while typing. It provides support for high-speed 3G networks around the world, and incorporates the latest generation of Wi-Fi (b/g/n) connectivity and built-in GPS for location-based applications and geo-tagging. It has been packed with the 5 MP camera which is capable of continuous auto focus, image stabilization, 11 scene modes, and zoom, in addition to video recording and comes with a combined 8 GB of media storage out-of-the-box. Its microSD/SDHD memory card slot provides a combined storage memory 36 GB for customers who are looking for more. The BlackBerry Torch displays the BlackBerry 6.0, a new operating system for BlackBerry smartphones which offers expanded messaging capabilities and RSS feeds, which integrate access to the popular BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service as well as Facebook (News - Alert), Twitter, MySpace in addition to various instant messaging applications. The enhanced multimedia experience makes it easy for users to discover, and enjoy audio and video podcasts from leading content providers while the universal search feature, allows users to search for content on the smartphone, and the Internet.
