ITEXPO Exhibitor AMFELTEC Announces Patent for Backup DeviceBy David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor Toronto-based AMFELTEC Corporation, which sells equipment dedicated to hardware/software development and electronic design manufacturing, has announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office granted a patent for the “Smart Batteryless Backup Device and Method Therefor." The Batteryless System Logger is being showcased in booth #818 at ITEXPO EAST 2011, in Miami, through Friday, Feb. 4. This patent covers the utility function of its Batteryless System Logger, and "highlights the approaches used in the Batteryless System Logger that allow the logger to continuously store log information, even when electrical characteristics of the System Logger are fluctuating due to humidity and temperature influences," according to company officials. According to company officials, many types of system crashes can’t be captured through standard methods, such as storing log information to a hard disk: "Operating system crashes and power outages can prevent log files from being properly written or can cause physical damage to the disk—not to mention that these days many embedded systems don’t have hard disks at all. This makes it extremely difficult to analyze the crash and make appropriate changes to prevent future system failures." ?The System Logger was designed to solve these types of problems. TMCnet recently reported that AMFELTEC (News - Alert) launched a new Multi-Interface Expansion Backplane that supports the 32-bit PCI interface, x16 PCI Express (4 lanes), ExpressCard interface, MiniPCI interface, MiniPCI Express interface and PMC interface. The Multi-Interface Expansion Backplane is the newest addition to the existing line of AMFELTEC Expansion Backplanes. It was developed to support hardware and software designers who need to plug add-in cards with different interfaces into the host computer.
