Welcome Italia Taps Allot to Deliver of VoIP Services
By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Telecom service provider Welcome Italia found a way to optimize the delivery of VoIP services for its subscribers by choosing to deploy Allot Communications' (News - Alert) NetEnforcer AC-1020 broadband management devices in its nationwide network. According to the telecom, it opted to deploy the system for its policy-based quality-of-service (QoS ) functionality.
Via the use of two NetEnforcer AC-1020 devices, Welcome Italia's staff is now capable of viewing traffic while it navigates the network on a per-subscriber, real-time basis. The new system is said to also protect the traffic from network vulnerabilities such as heavy peer-to-peer usage and to optimize the delivery of applications such as voice and video conferencing.
According to Allot, its NetEnforcer system is based on deep packet inspection (DPI) for real-time monitoring. This technology will help Welcome Italia to identify and isolate many types of security threats usually found in malicious traffic. NetEnforcer also features QoS enforcement capabilities which are built-in, enabling Welcome Italia to prioritize applications running on the network.
"Our business only makes sense if we are able to deliver data, voice and video services with a perfect and constant quality. What customers are really concerned with is the performance and treatment of business-critical traffic, and ultimately this is what they are paying for. Allot's solution allowed us to prevent the source of congestion and resume providing our customers with reliable, high quality service,'' said Nicola Di Giusto, telecom manager at Welcome Italia in a statement released on Monday.
Puerto Rican newspapers El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora also chose to deploy Allot's NetEnforcer system recently. Indeed, the newspapers are currently using the system to manage their network traffic and ensure bandwidth availability to their operations. Specifically, the newspapers' networks deployed Allot's NetEnforcer broadband management system to also enhance their presence on the Web.
Allot recently expanded the system chosen by El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora by launching the NetEnforcer AC-800 series of traffic management devices, the AC-804 and AC-808. Additionally, both devices are equipped with Allot's new NetXplorer centralized management capability, which provides better visibility and analysis of bandwidth usage per application and per user. Coupled with the NetEnforcer AC-804/808, the NetXplorer provides QoS control for the delivery of VoIP, streaming video and other high-bandwidth services.
