Communications Solution Provider XO Communications Completes Carrier Ethernet Global Interconnect Demonstration

XO Communications, a provider of advanced communications services and solutions, claimed that it has successfully completed the Carrier Ethernet Global Interconnect Demonstration at an Ethernet Expo recently held in New York City.

The live demo was conducted via remote test management and videoconferencing between locations in Frankfurt, Germany and collocation centers in New York City.

Frankfurt-based telecommunications operator, ancotel (News - Alert), European Advanced Networking Test Center AG (EANTC), an independent test lab in Berlin, worked together to organize a service provider interoperability test and showcase program that focused on: demonstrating broad interconnect footprint stretching from Europe into North America; enabling operators to rely on each other’s Ethernet OAM tools in order to monitor the end-to-end service; checking bandwidth profiles against expected data rates; and scrutinizing the service-level agreement (SLA) for each class of service (CoS).

At the demonstration, XO Communications previewed its Ethernet capabilities by originating traffic on the XO Communications network (that traversed the Equinix (News - Alert) Exchange at 165 Halsey in Newark, New Jersey) and delivering it to an exchange in Frankfurt before its termination to end users throughout Europe.

"The success of this test further solidifies XO's position as a recognized leader in the Carrier Ethernet space, which we were able to substantiate in this public forum."

XO claimed that its nationwide fiber network has helped it expand the availability of Ethernet services and has Ethernet over copper deployments in over 75 U.S. metropolitan markets. The company’s multi-Ethernet access capabilities enable it deliver Ethernet services to nearly four million buildings and as many as ten million business locations within the U.S.

The XO Ethernet Services portfolio includes: VPLS, Ethernet Hub, Ethernet Point-to-Point, Ethernet Access and more.
