Huawei Helps StarHub Deploy World's First Commercial Femtocell Network

Huawei, a global provider of next generation telecommunications network solutions, has teaed with StarHub, a telecoms operator in Singapore, deploy the world’s first commercial 3G femtocell network.

 

Thanks to Huawei’ s femtocell solution, end-users can enjoy high-speed wireless data services indoors such as streaming video, IPTV (News - Alert), video conferencing and mobile broadband.

 

Wan Biao, executive deputy president of Huawei (News - Alert) Wireless Product Line, finds the StarHub’ s launch of ‘ Home Zone’ , the world' s first commercially-available 3G femtocell service, a significant milestone for the commercial development of the femtocell industry.

 

Biao said that Huawei was one of the earliest members of Femto Forum, and has been committed to femtocell research and development since 2005. The company now plays an active role in the commercial deployment of this important technology worldwide in partnership with the industry.

 

“We are proud to have already played a key role in developing the world' s first commercial 3G femtocell network,” he added.

 

Huawei is a major femtocell end-to-end solution providers and inform that they have now deployed a total of 21 pre-commercial and trial femtocell networks worldwide. The company claims this is more than any other competitor in the industry.

 

Huawei also announced that KPN International has used their new Optical Transport Network (OTN) technologies to complete phase one of the upgrade to 40 Gbit/s across its European fiber network.

 

KPN is an international telecommunications and ICT service provider, offering wireline and wireless telephony, internet and TV to consumers and end-to-end telecom and ICT services to business customers. Huawei technologies have enabled the Paris - London - Amsterdam links to now run at these high speeds. Other key European destinations are scheduled for completion this quarter.
