Verizon Inks $100 Million IP Services Contract with Johnson Controls
By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Verizon Business just inked a new, five-year contract with automotive interior parts provider Johnson Controls to provide a suite of managed IP-based communication services which will support the company's worldwide business operations. The contract is reportedly valued at $100 million and it will extend the companies' nine-year long relationship.
The new contract calls for Verizon (News - Alert) to deliver and manage an integrated global IP networking system comprised of Private IP, IP VPN, Internet and voice services. In order to accommodate Johnson Controls' ongoing growth, Verizon will expand the company's Private IP network in the Asia-Pacific region. These services, bundled with the introduction of Verizon Secure Gateway (News - Alert), will enable Johnson Controls' staff around the world to securely and seamlessly communicate with each other across their global IP network.
"As Johnson Controls has grown and expanded geographically, Verizon Business has been a critical telecommunications provider for us," said Johnson Controls' vice president and CIO Sam Valanju in a statement. "We can rely on Verizon Business to focus on the telecommunications heart of our operations, while we focus on our key areas of business, making cars and buildings smarter, more comfortable and more efficient. Verizon Business' expansive global IP network is the infrastructure foundation that we have in place today and the springboard for future IP-based telecommunications applications we may introduce in the future."
The new contract called for Verizon LiveSource to provide Dobson with directory assistance service including call completion, reverse lookup, movie and restaurant listings, weather forecasts, sports updates, Spanish language services, business category searches and text messaging. With text messaging, once a listing is provided, it can be forwarded as a text message to the wireless handset. This is super helpful, especially when most carriers directly connect callers to the number requested without giving them a chance to save the number once obtained.
