Indonesian Mobile Operator Selects Nokia Siemens Networks

Indonesian mobile operator Telkomsel has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to provide coverage, quality and energy efficiency.



 
Specifically, Telkomsel has signed a new frame agreement with Nokia Siemens Networks (News - Alert) to expand its existing network coverage, boost capacity and improve performance.

Officials said that the deal between Telkomsel (News - Alert) and Nokia Siemens Networks, covers the supply, deployment and integration of WCDMA/HSPA radio access networks (RAN) as well as 2G base station sub-system (BSS) and services solutions in the country.

As part of the agreement Nokia Siemens Network would also supply its energy efficient, Flexi base station.

“The cooperation is Telkomsel’s effort to maintain our position as the service leader in a very competitive market. We are highly aware of the importance of network quality in the era where competition is a call for quality. Therefore, we continuously expand our networks as well as increase capacity, one of which is realized by strengthening our partnership with Nokia Siemens Networks,” said Sarwoto Atmosutarno, CEO Telkomsel, in a statement.

Atmosutarno pointed out that this year, by collaborating with various network vendors, Telkomsel will deploy 4000 new base stations, with a total investment of USD1.5 billion, which is an effort to provide a level of communications comfort to herald the new era of quality-based services as promoted by the government.
Telkomsel is a major player cellular telecommunications services in Indonesia with 69 million customers or more than 50% market share.
 
Telkomsel provides GSM cellular services in Indonesia, through its own nationwide Dual band 900/1800 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE/ WCDMA/HSDPA network, and internationally, through 330 international roaming partners all over the world. Telkomsel launched its 3G services in September 2006.
