Retronyms' Recorder 10 Brings Call Recording Feature to iPhone

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Retronyms, a developer of software applications for iPhone, Mac, PC and Unix, announced the launch of version 10 of its Recorder software on Apple’s (News - Alert) iPhone offering updated feature such as call recording.

The latest version of Recorder software can record outgoing calls through an external service, which is chargeable per minute. The software enables the user to record memos, discussions, interviews and more on the iPhone. The recorded phone calls can be integrated seamlessly with other recordings. Users can either WiFi (News - Alert) synch, trim or e-mail the recordings.
Zach Saul, co-founder of the Retronyms, said, "Call recording is our most requested feature, and we're really excited to be able to provide it. The only possible solution required a per-minute fee, but we think it will be a big benefit to many users."
Retronyms said that the new call recording feature was not possible until Apple released a new in-app micropayment service as part of the iPhone (News - Alert) 3.0 update. Using the updated OS, users can purchase this call recording via their existing iTunes account.
In order to use the Email Recording option, users will have to first upload the memo and then email a link to the e-mail address. To listen to the recorded memo or call, user will have to just click on the link. User can just right-click on the mp3 or aiff file and then select "Save Link As" from the menu that pops up, in order to save the recording.

The user can also make use of Wifi Sync feature. First, user will have to connect the phone and computer to the same wireless network, then tap the Wi-Fi Sync tab at the bottom of the screen, and connect to the address that appears on the phone's screen with a browser on the user’s computer. Once the address is entered, a message will pop up on the phone for confirmation. Once the connection is confirmed, the recordings will start loading in the webpage. Now, user can click on a recording to save it to on the computer.
The voice/audio Recorder 10 for the iPhone/iPod Touch is available in the App Store for $0.99.
According to Retronyms, its Recorder application is one of the most popular recording apps on the iPhone, with more than 300,000 sales. In addition, it is the first application to provide call recording on iPhone and was the only business application that made the top ten list of iPhone apps sold for 2008.
Apart from Recorder, Retronyms also offers VOX 3000, FourTrack, and Snap.
