Verizon Start Verizon Developer Community

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Looking to encourage the development of new mobile applications, Verizon is hosting the first-ever Verizon (News - Alert) Developer Community Conference on July 28 in Silicon Valley. According to Verizon, this conference will help the developers to meet the company and exchange important ideas.

For its developers, Verizon provides the tools and resources to create and distribute apps to Verizon customers. The company will now have the ability to drive innovation through superior choice, access and profitability that results in partnering with Verizon. The conference will allow the developers to interact with technical, marketing and network gurus from Verizon, as well as their industry leaders and peers.

The conference will also allow Verizon to focus on the open development conference that focused on devices, which the company held in March last year. For the mobile applications developers, the VDC Conference offers an overview of the company's overall strategy around applications. They can also get information on a new developer portal and learn more about the process of submitting.

“Conference speakers will detail how developers can take advantage of new tools and resources, including Verizon Wireless APIs, to build applications and get them in front of more than 80 million customers," John Stratton, Verizon's chief marketing officer said. “This conference is a direct result of feedback we received from our development partners. The model that we'll share at the conference is singular in its focus.”

The conference will also allow developers to learn about the launching and revenue sharing for applications on Verizon Wireless devices as well as the upcoming launch of an applications store. Verizon will also webcast the day's presentations, featuring executives from Verizon, Research In Motion (RIM) and Softbank (News - Alert) Mobile along with others.

The company has recently introduced a new Application Security (News - Alert) Program, saying that it takes a risk-based approach to protecting the critical data contained within each application. With this new program, large-business customers can better understand and identify the potential security threats to their applications, and take steps to protect them.
