With its Veritek Concept, Ford Hints What Future Dashboard May Look Like

By Charles West, TMCnet Web Editor

Ford Motors in a press release gave a taste of some future innovations in the drivetrain department with its concept car, Veritek. The motor company highlighted a handful of cool features that included a stylish design, outstanding cargo space and a 1.6-liter EcoBoost™ engine equipped with Ford Auto Start-Stop technology that could deliver best-in-class fuel economy.

The Ford Vertrek concept is built on Ford's global C-segment platform, which will support more than 2 million vehicles globally by 2012.

Ford's vision for the future is to have a utility vehicle that will appeal to customers around the globe. Ford realizes customer demands are converging globally toward a compact sport utility vehicle. "This segment is uniquely diversified across the globe," said Jim Farley, group vice president, Global Marketing, Sales and Service.

The concept car seems to pack Ford Motors new touch technology known as MyFord Touch. Ford’s MyFord combines the strengths of standard interfaces in consumer electronics such as MP3 players and mobile phones with the next generation SYNC system developed. This will surely bring customers aboard.

In other car news, OnStar has announced it will now sell its car communications network service as a retail product that can be attached to any car.

OnStar, which has more than 6 million customers using its emergency service in General cars, plans to dramatically increase those numbers with this product. OnStar, not only plans to follow today’s growing desire in turning cars into hotbeds for internet-connected technology but into gadgets.
