Qualcomm, ooVoo to Launch High-Def Video to Mobile Conferencing

By Deepika Mala, TMCnet Contributor

Qualcomm, a major player in next-generation mobile technologies, has joined forces with ooVoo, a conferencing service provider of mobile video chat solutions, to provide high-definition video to mobile communications. The announcement of the collaboration was made at the annual Consumer Electronics Show 2011.

The first multi-party, VGA high resolution mobile video chat solution on a production Android (News - Alert) smartphone device, will be jointly demonstrated by Qualcomm and ooVoo, at the Qualcomm booth in South Hall 3, upper level, exhibit No. 30313 at CES (News - Alert) in Las Vegas through Jan. 9.

The demonstrations, by combining Qualcomm’s advanced hardware codec implementation and power of the Snapdragon chipset and ooVoo’s (News - Alert) award-winning quality of service and ease of use, promises to deliver four times the quality in mobile video chat while reducing the device power and CPU consumption by half.

ooVoo’s high resolution mobile video chat is enabled by using Qualcomm’s (News - Alert) hardware codec capability. Up to six users, through ooVoo, are allowed to simultaneously participate on a mobile video call without compromising quality. The company’s innovation in mobile video chat software, integrated with Qualcomm’s differentiated hardware, will elevate the mobile experience to levels that have not been achieved by competitive video chat services.

“We’re delighted to work in tandem with Qualcomm to deliver the best mobile video conference in the market place,” said Philippe Schwartz (News - Alert), CEO at ooVoo, in a press release. “ooVoo provides the best-in-class mobile video chat anywhere, anytime. Our game-changing technology allows users to experience high quality, multi-device and multi-party video chat in ways that is not available with other services.”

ooVoo, in December, introduced the first 4G mobile video chat service that allows six-way video chat and unparalleled quality. Launched on the Android marketplace, this new mobile video chat service, according to ooVoo, will allow up to six users to simultaneously participate on a video call without compromising the video experience.
