Comviva Partners with airtel bangladesh for Messaging SolutionsBy Narayan Bhat, TMCnet Contributor Bharti Airtel, India’s biggest wireless carrier, has wrapped up a partnership agreement with mobile solutions provider Comviva to provide messaging services to consumers in Bangladesh. The financial details of the deal have not yet been disclosed. Under the agreement, Comviva will set up a Web portal for the Airtel’s (News - Alert) Bangladeshi arm, helping the telecom carrier add value to its service and find another source of income. The news comes barely four days after Airtel announced it would launch a money-transfer service in Madagascar. The new deal will enable Airtel to tap into the Gurgaon, Delhi-based company’s various messaging solutions including Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), Short Message Service Center (SMSC) and BMG (Bulk Messaging Gateway (News - Alert)). Comviva’s messaging service has many features including SMS upload, SMS storage, SMS forward, SMS copy, auto reply, e-mail notification and SMS signature.Comviva recently deployed an SMS platform called Bulk Messaging Gateway (BMG), an ideal choice for enterprise customers to launch promotional campaigns over SMS. “With SMS traffic enjoying continued strong growth, we needed a proven solution to manage the increased load without making major investment. We selected Comviva’s messaging solutions to efficiently route traffic over our existing network infrastructure and deliver an improved level of service to our customers creating greater satisfaction and long-term loyalty,” said Chris Tobit, CEO and managing director of airtel bangladesh ltd. Bharti Airtel (News - Alert) has operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa, and it is planning to make a fresh investment of $300 million to rapidly expand its operation in Bangladesh.“With five billion mobile users globally able to access self-care services and content, there is great scope to extend the range of content and applications available via USSD and SMS to drive value added service usage” said Manoranjan Mohapatra, CEO of Comviva. Comviva is working with many other mobile operators in Bangladesh to provide them with end-to-end mobile solutions. Comviva’s solutions are deployed by service providers in over 85 countries globally. Messaging applications enable subscribers to interact with friends and discover new applications, driving service usage and revenue growth for operators.
