Yap Picked to Power Cincinnati Bell Voice2Text Service

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Automated voicemail-to-text service provider, Yap, announced today it was chosen to power a Voice2Text service for a Cincinnati, Ohio-based provider of integrated communications solutions.

Officials with Yap said their automated transcription technology will be used to allow Cincinnati Bell (News - Alert) wireless customers the ability to receive voicemail messages via text or E-mail.

According to Shiv Bakhshi, principal analyst and founder of Mobile Perspectives, a consultancy focused on the wireless and mobile communications industry, today’s on the go mobile users are expecting to be able to interact with their voicemail messages as efficiently as all other messaging services.

Also, "By pushing voicemails to the edge device, carriers can also realize the potential savings associated with significantly reduced demand on centralized voicemail access and storage," Bakhshi said.

With Voice2Text, incoming voicemails are converted to text and delivered to a user via SMS or to their email address, if they wish.

This means mobile users can reply to voicemails immediately, without having to dial into their voicemail account and listen to the messages. Along with productivity increases, users can also better manage and store messages as well as index and forward them as needed in this format.

"By partnering with Yap, we are taking Voice2Text to the next level with enhanced options including e-mail delivery of voicemail messages, a profanity filter, and online account management,"  said Mike Vanderwoude, general manager of Cincinnati Bell Wireless.

Yap recently announced it was also tapped by business telephony service provider, InVox, to offer its business customers a voice-to-text service. This application will complement the company’s cloud-based IVR product.
