Lab X Unveils 1Gbit AVB Ethernet Switch

By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor

This week at the Integrated Systems Europe 2011 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Lab X Technologies introduced the Titanium 411 1Gbit audio video bridging (AVB) Ethernet switch.  Supporting IEEE (News - Alert) 802.1 AVB bridging standards, the Titanium 411 is specifically designed for the demanding needs of AV-networking applications, said the maker.

Combing Lab X’s AVB expertise with ruggedized connectors such as industry standard SFP- supporting long haul fiber, additional copper connections and flexible mounting options, Titanium 411 is capable of handling hundreds of AV media streams per AVB port, said Lab X.

According to Lab X, Titanium 411 offers four rear-mount 1GB RJ45 copper interfaces using locking EtherCon connectors, along with an SFP slot to accommodate standard fiber modules or additional copper interfaces, and network activity LED lights on the front and back of the unit. The flexibility of Titanium 411 is broadcast through a configurable 1Gb locking copper interface, which can either be mounted on a rear or front panel for easy access, as per the manufacturer’s description. Also, the unit’s ruggedized internal power supply is connected with a locking PowerCon connector, Lab X said.

In a statement, commented Lee Minich, president, Lab X, “Lab X has seen a vast number of unique applications, where neither traditional high-port count IT nor consumer-grade low-port switches met demanding industry needs. Titanium 411 is the first Ethernet switch supporting IEEE 802.1 Audio Video Bridging standards, designed specifically for the unique, rugged requirements of AV installations.”

Target (News - Alert) applications for Titanium 411 include flying mount deployments to networked line arrays and speaker clusters, fiber runs to remote networked equipment in space-constrained areas, and on-stage and FOH networking needs.
