Acision Provides Value Added Services for Globacom Ghana Network

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Acision, a mobile messaging company, today announced it has been selected by Globacom, a telecom operator in Africa, to provide value added services (VAS) for that company’s network in Ghana.

With over 20 million subscribers, Globacom is one of the two biggest operators in Nigeria. Recently, Globacom rolled out its network in Benin Republic in West Africa. As part of its ongoing expansion plans in the region, Globacom recently acquired a new operating license in Ghana.

Acision (News - Alert) will offer Acision SMSC, Acision MMSC, Acision Voicemail, Acision High Speed Proxy for mobile data services and Acision Prepaid System to Glo Mobile Ghana to provide value-added services to its customers. With these services Glo Mobile Ghana is planning to capture market leadership when it launches in 2009.

Acision, with the help of its local partner TechFuture, will deploy the services with the capacity and flexibility to deliver new and differentiated communication services to Glo Mobile Ghana.

“Acision is the obvious choice to partner with to replicate the success we have already achieved in Nigeria as we expand into Ghana,” said Mohamed Jameel, chief operating officer Globacom's Group, in a statement. “Acision's innovation matches our vision of building the biggest and the best telecommunications network in Africa.”

In July, Acision celebrated its 15th anniversary of supplying Short Message Service Centers (SMSCs), notes Rich Tehrani (News - Alert), president of Technology Marketing Corporation, in his blog post on Acision.

When SMSC version 1.0 was launched in 1992, it had a capacity of 10 messages per second. Today a single rack of the IP-based SMSC can handle 16,000 messages per second with the ability to grow to “virtually” unlimited levels, Tehrani explains

“With over 20 years experience in delivering innovative solutions, Acision is the ideal partner for network start-ups and established operators alike,” says Richard Lowe, general manager, Europe and Africa at Acision, in a statement.

“Working with Glo Mobile Ghana is extremely exciting for us as it further demonstrates Acision's commitment to enabling operators in emerging markets to deliver advanced messaging services more traditionally associated with mature markets,” Lowe adds. “Globacom has ambitious expansion plans and we are pleased to be part of the process in partnering with them to achieve their goal.”
