Cornet Technology's Tactical Voice Conferencing System Targets Military

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Cornet Technology, a company that provides voice, data, and video technology products, is introducing its Tactical Voice Conferencing System (TVCS) to give military a standards-based operator interface for secure voice and radio communications that supports new and legacy equipment.

TVCS has many advantages over other voice conferencing systems. Apart from offering excellent audio quality, TVCS significantly increases the distance for control of Secure Terminal Equipment- Remote (STE-R) and automates communication patching for primary and secondary radios and communications security (COMSEC) devices thus reducing the number of cryptos required, the company said.

Cornet’s new system allows operators to simultaneously monitor up to 20 summed audio, classified and unclassified radios, phones, and intercom connections in a single headset or handset. Because TVCS uses standardized Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert) (SIP) technology, it fits into any standing military application.

TVCS Operator Interface uses a state-of-the-art graphical user interface (GUI) suitable for the Xbox generation. Because of this feature, activity duty personnel with operator experience can learn radio communications, phone use and point-to-point intercom calls, net/group calls, and adhoc conference calls without any additional training. Those without any experience can perform these tasks with as little as 20 minutes of training.

Cornet plans to install TVCS system for its first customer in as early as January 2009. Currently the system is being evaluated by both Information Assurance (IA) and Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC). It is in the process of being Tempest tested.

Cornet Technology (News - Alert) operates in three core areas of business. Cornet Technology Communications designs and manufactures data, voice and video network switching products and provides integration services for federal and commercial markets.

Cornet Video Convergence (News - Alert) provides video products and comprehensive integration services to the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), utility, energy, military, homeland defense, and other strategic security markets.

Lastly, Cornet Optim Systems develops and integrates secure and insecure video conferencing solutions for Department of Defense and commercial organizations.
