Telx's Co-Location Center in New Jersey Connects More Than 400 Networks

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Telx, a provider of interconnectivity solutions delivered via co-location facilities, has acquired 24,000 square feet of space in Clifton, New Jersey.

With the new network-neutral facility, Telx is able to provide its customers with connectivity to 400 plus firms, including carriers, business exchanges and enterprises0 — all with only a single point of connection between the networks — along with access to the largest number of carriers and businesses with some of the lowest latency rates in the region.

In addition to space and physical interconnection services, Telx will offer the Telx Virtual Exchange service, the new virtual MeetMe room connection to Frankfurt, the Telx Financial Exchange service, and dedicated Internet access to customers in the Clifton, N.J. facility.

The Clifton acquisition is the fifth in a series of acquisitions made by Telx over the last six months. With the new acquisition, Telx has increased its spatial capacity to 70,000 square feet, increasing company’s footprint by more than 20 percent. The new facility also offers interconnectivity to Telx’s two carrier-neutral facilities: two in New York City and one in Weehawken, New Jersey.

Telx selected New Jersey, as it is one of the most sought-after locations in the New York metro for data center, network redundancy and disaster recovery services for a large number of companies based in New York and New Jersey. Tier 1 Research, in its “Internet Datacenter Supply” report 2007, had identified Northern New Jersey as the ninth largest market for co-location and data center services in the United States.

The new center decision also complies with recommendations made by Gartner’s (News - Alert) March 3, 2008 report titled “Toolkit Decision Framework: Best Data Center Locations for Disaster Recovery,” which states, because of the higher risk of outages, it is imperative that the two sites plan for no single point of failure by being on separate power grids, water infrastructures and telephone companies or network service provider switching locations.

“We are already seeing demand for our Clifton facility from both existing customers as well as prospects as our leadership in interconnection and co-location grows,” said Eric Shepcaro (News - Alert), CEO of Telx, in a statement. “Telx now can offer our customers a great local site as well as a redundant site to our leading New York City offerings as well as a site that is interconnected to more than 300 carriers and service providers and other firms in New York.”
