Voice Technologies Benefit Government Agencies with Efficiency, Fast ROI

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Senior Editor

Government agencies face some unique pressures and challenges when it comes to running efficiently. Agencies, for example, have customers to serve (constituents) but must comply with sometimes very strict regulations regarding how they go about doing so. Budgeting can also be especially restrictive on government agencies, since they rely on taxpayer money and must therefore apply rigorous justification for any purchases.

To top all this off, it’s often difficult or impossible for government agencies to be as nimble as private-sector firms because policy and strategic changes typically can’t be applied until regulations or laws change, which as everyone knows can be a rather lengthy process.

So, what’s a government agency to do if, despite all these restrictions, it simply must find a way to operate more efficiently? Technology offers part of the answer. Voice-enabled systems in particular can offer a way to streamline operations. This very type of technology is the topic of an upcoming Webinar, “Imagine Government Agencies Where Productivity is Powered by the Human Voice,” scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

This free Webinar will be presented by Hakan Kilic, product manager for the employee productivity suite division at Nuance, and Tim Gray, Web Editor at Technology Marketing Corporation. Kilic and Gray will outline how government agencies can utilize new voice technologies without needing to make major upgrades to aging communications infrastructure.

This Webinar will include a discussion about how speech-based dialer technology can be used to enhance telecommuting initiatives and reduce calls to switchboard operators by 40-60 percent. Just as important, this technology can provide return on investment (ROI) in less than six months.

Voice-powered solutions also can be used for emergency broadcasting of alerts, and to make resetting passwords a faster process that consumes fewer resources.
