CounterPath Corporation in Partnership with NEC Releases Mobile Unified Communications Solution

NEC's (News - Alert) Smart Mobile Client, a sophisticated solution for fixed mobile convergence that extends the functionality and capabilities of NEC communication servers to market-leading smartphones, has been introduced by CounterPath Corporation, an award-winning provider of desktop and mobile VoIP software solutions, and NEC Unified Solutions.




"Smart Mobile Client R2.2 provides users of popular enterprise smart phones, such as the Blackberry 9700, Nokia E72/N97 and Apple (News - Alert) iPhone with the experience of having full access to their company's communications network while on the move," Bert van Koelen, business manager at NEC Unified, said. He added, "The NEC solution provides users with mobile unified communications functionality, by extending enterprise telephony, voicemail and corporate directory services - together with presence, instant messaging and conferencing capabilities - to smart phones over cellular networks as well as through Wi-Fi."

"With Smart Mobile Client, customers on NEC call servers can now seamlessly shift phone calls off the cellular network onto their enterprise Wi-Fi network, saving an estimated 30 percent on their mobile cellular spending. They can also select PBX (News - Alert) routing schemes for considerable savings on roaming costs, too."

Smart Mobile Client has been successfully implemented by multiple customers. The customers appreciate the way the client software complements their existing smartphone usage patterns, instead of requiring employees to modify their preferences.

Through the company's communications server based on the customer's least-cost-routing settings, Smart Mobile Client automatically routes their calls. The client software supports Blackberry, Windows Mobile and Nokia Symbian (News - Alert) platforms, as well as Apple iPhone and Android through the Web client.

Smart Mobile Client, with Release 2.2 rolled out across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, is now available for iS3000 and SIP Net communication servers.
