Live Earth Sets A New Internet Record
By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor
According to reports, the Live Earth ( News - Alert) concerts that took place Saturday July 7 attracted more than 10 million online viewers making it the largest audience to ever simultaneously watch a concert broadcast over the Internet.
MSN network beamed the concert live over the Internet from major cities across the world like New York, London, and Hamburg. According to the company, as of 3 p.m. on Saturday, MSN had delivered more than 10 million video streams. According to Joanne Bradford, VP and chief media officer at Microsoft’s ( News - Alert) MSN unit, this represents a milestone in live Internet broadcasting.
And the attractions for fans were powerful to say the least. A plethora of well known artists from Madonna to Metallica played from multiple venues over a 24-hour period on July 7. The aim of the concert was to spread awareness about global warming by informing people about the gradually rising Earth’s temperature due to man-made influences.
Microsoft expected to draw more than 2 billion audiences from these combined concerts. If you missed out on watching the gala event live on Saturday, you can still watch the clips made available by MSN LiveEarth.MSN.com.
