Microsoft Lync Gives ProtoSphere Users Superior VoiP Experience

By Tammy Wolf, TMCnet Copy Editor

ProtonMedia’s ProtoSphere just got a voice makeover with its collaboration with Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync Server 2010, Microsoft’s latest enterprise-class unified communications platform that will help give users of Protosphere a superior, secure and scalable VoIP experience in the 3D virtual workplace.

ProtoSphere Lync Edition 2010 features four upgrades to its voice communications solution that “brings together the highest quality voice, data and social networking into a single environment where people can collaborate and communicate in real time,” according to ProtonMedia’s CEO, Ron Burns.

The updates are as follows:

  • Dial-out: Users can conference others into a public or private zone in ProtoSphere by calling their landline, mobile phone or conference bridge, right from the platform’s dial pad;
  • Hands-free talking: Always on VoIP using Microsoft technology allows for seamless conversation;
  • Echo cancellation: Echo is eliminated even when speaking without a headset, therefore, users no longer need to wear one to ensure an echo-free experience;
  • Communication Panel: Allows users to adjust and mute/unmute a microphone or a speaker, and to select an audio device, whether it’s a headset or built-in microphone/speakers.

"ProtoSphere is an enterprise collaboration application that uses the power of the Microsoft Lync extensible platform," says Shaun Pierce, general manager, Microsoft Lync. "ProtonMedia's ProtoSphere provides a unique virtual collaboration solution for the high-performance workplace on top of Microsoft Lync."

Lync Server 2010 is required to use ProtoSphere Lync Edition 2010, and ProtonMedia is provided with Lync Server 2010 into ProtoSphere Lync Edition 2010 enterprise deployments. ProtoSphere is available via ProtonMedia’s direct sales and select system integrator partners, and a free demo can be found at the ProtonMedia website.

“The next generation of UC is here,” said Burns.
