ICAEW Selects Unified Communications Solutions from NextiraOne

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, or “ICAEW,” recently did some serious math and discovered that they can save a lot by reducing their telephony and operating costs. So, the ICAEW selected the new Unified Communications (News - Alert) platform from NextiraOne to serve this purpose.

The unified communications makes use of converged IT and communications technology to enable virtual teams to collaborate from anywhere in the world. It can also connect people to the right resources and information, securely and cost-effectively.

With the NextiraOne (News - Alert) platform, ICAEW will now get a combined solution based on technology from both Alcatel-Lucent and Cisco. The institute will now have a fully integrated Unified Communications system which provides an advanced IP Telephony platform supporting 650 users across the business. The Unified Communications infrastructure has created an enhanced working environment, based on an Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) Omni-PCX Enterprise platform.

Steven Skakel, managing director UK & Ireland at NextiraOne, said: “Using Unified Communications and collaboration tools was the ideal solution for an organization like the ICAEW and we were able to deliver a scalable solution which can grow with the expansion of the ICAEW’s international business. Our experts understand the business drivers of major organizations like the ICAEW and we were able to propose and implement a tailored solution.”

Based on dual servers with spatial redundancy in ICAEW’s Data Centers in Milton Keynes and London, NextiraOne’s core telephony solution incorporated several levels of resilience. The company also provides total support and maintenance for the ICAEW’s infrastructure through a Managed Services Contract. The collaborative working environment includes features such as My Teamwork, My Messaging, My Phone (News - Alert), One Number and My Instant Communicator.

Recently, the company implemented an upgrade of the voice communications for the State Administration along with the IT-Directorate of the regional government of Lower Austria. The new communications solution is based on a comprehensive server infrastructure built around two redundant Data Centers linked through IP. The two blade centers house an OmniPCX Enterprise from Alcatel-Lucent.
