Alcatel-Lucent to Deliver Advanced Communication Network to the University of Concepcion in Chile

Telefónica Empresas has selected Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) to supply a new IP network to be installed at the University of Concepción campuses at Concepción, Chillán, Los Angeles and at its office in Santiago. The project is scheduled for completion in October.



 
The network installation will be centrally managed by Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniVista technology for telephony, unified communications, IP phones, LAN and WLAN across the campus. The network installation is being carried out by Alcatel-Lucent’s business partner e-Business Distribution S.A.
 
Strengthening relationships, simplifying interaction, and improving performance, Alcatel-Lucent is helping customers transform to adopt a dynamic communications model. As Universidad de Concepción sets the standard for other universities in its vicinity in adopting technological innovations, Alcatel Lucent is looking assist the university in its goal with this agreement.
 
University of Concepción students, professors, administrative staff and others can communicate and collaborate with unmatched security, speed, and reliability once the Alcatel-Lucent IP communications network is deployed. The users will now get increased productivity and wireless internet for a mobile learning environment as they enjoy the benefits of unified communications including audio and video conferencing for increased productivity and wireless internet. As Alcatel will be providing alarm and video surveillance systems, the campus security will also be strengthened. The inter-campus calls will be cheaper with this agreement.
 
Telefonica Empresas said that the company was very pleased that Universidad of Concepción entrusts this project to the company.
 
“Completely transforming our voice, data and video network on wired, wireless and optical infrastructures is a significant undertaking. We are investing in this project to maintain the highest standard of education at Universidad of Concepción, and look forward to becoming the university with the most advanced communication infrastructure in Chile,” said Sergio Lavanchy, Director of the Universidad de Concepción. “We are very proud of this project, which will improve the learning experience for our entire community,” he added.
