Veraz Networks and Apertio Announce New IMS Solution to Simplify Application Integration
By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Veraz Networks ( News - Alert), Inc. and Apertio have announced a new IMS solution designed to simplify integration of applications for fixed and mobile communication service providers.
This new offering is a combination of a consolidated subscriber network database from Apertio ( News - Alert) and a unified applications view and unified session control from Veraz.
This joint solution consisting of Veraz ControlSwitch-USCâ„? and Apertio One-HSS is expected to enable communication service providers the flexibility to integrate existing and new application platforms with their back office systems. Such flexibility will allow these providers to maximize service revenue even in complex converged networks.
More significantly, this flexibility will also enable existing operators to offer a unified fixed-mobile IMS network using Veraz ControlSwitch-USCâ„? through seamless integration with an Apertio One-HLR (Home Location Register), their own HLR or a legacy HLR from a Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE) partner.
The core IMS session control and application interaction management functionalities are the responsibility of the Veraz ControlSwitch. Apertio One-HSS operators as a key element for IMS mobility and delivers a single, open, subscriber-centric architecture that unifies customer data that is typically locked away in proprietary infrastructure.
Veraz ControlSwitch and the Apertio One-HSS communication via the Diameter Cx interface, a standard authentication, and authorization and accounting protocol used in IMS.
The joint solution is currently deployed within an IMS reference model at Amdoc’s interoperability laboratories along with the company’s 3Gpp-compliant revenue, customer and service management products.
The model is capable of demonstrating enhanced real-time charging and provisioning across fixed, mobile and converged environments. In order to enable service providers to better capitalize on the revenue potential of new IMS services, they must be able to achieve efficiency in billing and provisioning.
The Amdocs ( News - Alert) deployment effectively highlights the benefits of the joint solution and how it can facilitate efficient IMS service delivery, from provisioning through real-time charging.
“Improving service interaction control with IMS enables communication service providers to realize new revenue streams through the rapid creation and delivery of innovative, new generation services,” said Wallace Ascham, VP Partners at Apertio in a Wednesday statement.
“However, to truly take advantage of IMS, it is critical to mirror this flexibility in how the services can be provisioned, managed and billed. Veraz’s platform, like our own, is built on an open, distributed architecture and combines high performance and flexibility from service creation to streamlined back office integration.”
“Flexible, distributed, multi-vendor, the Veraz-Apertio offer delivers enhanced time to revenue for new services, truly exemplifying IMS,” said Amit Chawla, Executive Vice President, Global Business Units of Veraz, in Wednesday’s statement.
“Whether it’s a mobile operator looking to move to a converged model or a service provider looking for new business opportunities, Veraz and Apertio are enabling them to take full advantage of the IMS potential.”
IMS is certainly a critical element for service providers seeking to maximize revenue potential and identifying new potential. With this new joint solution from Veraz and Apertio, these service providers will be provided new capability and flexibility to be able to customize their solutions to fit the specific needs of their customers, thereby gaining significant competitive advantage.
