MERA Systems to Announce Rollout of New VoIP Softswitches at ITEXPO

By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor

At next week’s ITEXPO West, held Sept. 1 to 3 in Los Angeles, MERA Systems will lift the curtain on its upgraded, next-generation VoIP product portfolio – and give attendees a glimpse of two new products it plans to roll out by the end of September.

That’s just the first of many plans for the next 12 months announced by the Toronto-based developer of tandem softswitches and session-border controllers for VoIP, which help carriers and service providers manage VoIP calls.

To top off the new product line, MERA is also working on new partnership programs with industry-leading vendors aimed at providing telecommunication carriers with comprehensive VoIP products for complex TDM replacement.

On the product side, MERA’s primary goals include helping carriers transition from its older “MVTS I” VoIP softswitches to its next-generation “MVTS Pro” line of softswitches by giving those who upgrade a discount. The company announced plans in July to phase out its signature MVTS 1 softswitches to the newer line, which features session border control functionality.

So far, getting existing carriers on board with the transition plan has been easy, MERA Systems (News - Alert) CEO Konstantin Nikashov told TMCnet in an interview.

“We just haven’t been able to cope with requests of all our customers who were willing to migrate from MVTS I to MVTS Pro,” he said. “This is really a brand new ultra-scalable IMS-compliant VoIP softswitch with SBC functionality and unmatched productivity.”

Designed for wholesale carriers, the newer MVTS Pro features “incredibly fast routing,” Nikashov told TMCnet, “but is created to act as a single point for CDR collection, accounting and other business-critical data.”

Later on in September, Nikashov said MERA will launch the MVTS II Version 1.3, which comes with new routing capabilities, statistics and report tools. MERA will also launch a new product outside of this line -- its yet-to-be-named “MERA Integrated solution,” which comprises its class 4 and 5 features, specifically designed to meet the needs of wholesale carriers, local exchange carriers, mobile carriers, large corporations and carriers with both retail and wholesale traffic that want to save on network infrastructure by utilizing the same switching and control engine for all types of traffic.”

“When it comes to our new Class 4/5 product,” Nikashov said, “we believe it will become the best choice for carriers willing to efficiently handle both wholesale and retail traffic.”
