Extreme Networks Pushes Broadband Networks into Rural America Under Rural Carrier Initiative

Extreme Networks, Inc. is reportedly driving broadband networks intro rural America by targeting carriers that deploy next-generation broadband networks in rural areas with USDA RUS-Accepted solutions and proven reference architectures for residential triple play services at the lowest total cost of ownership. The Extreme Networks (News - Alert) initiative is taking place with the U.S. Government's Broadband Stimulus program.



 
The company will kick-start the initiative by participating in the Texas Telephone Association, Inc. 2009 Convention and Product Showcase. Extreme Networks will highlight a 10 Gigabit Ethernet Transport reference architecture built with its Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert) Certified and RUS-Accepted Summit and BlackDiamond Ethernet transport switch families at the showcase.
 
TTA (News - Alert) is a trade association that supports the Texas incumbent local exchange telephone companies. Extreme Networks is now a member of this trade association. There are 61 incumbent local exchange telephone companies that provide service to more than 13 million access lines in 1,244 exchanges across Texas. The TTA Convention and Product Showcase is being held in San Antonio, Texas.
 
According to Suresh Gopalakrishnan, vice president and general manager for the Scalable Products Group at Extreme Networks, the organization is committed to helping rural carriers that are expanding their broadband services. Due to its success deploying carrier networks for triple play services globally, Extreme Networks’ brings the right expertise and proven reference architectures to the table, lowering the total cost of ownership and helping to improve the bottom line.
 
The Broadband Stimulus program provides rural broadband operators with an opportunity to transition their networks to next-generation architectures that empower an array of profitable broadband services. The program has already allocated $7.2 billion, of which $2.5 billion is targeted for Rural Utilities Service grants, loans and loan guarantees.
 
Extreme Networks designs, builds and installs converged Ethernet networks that support data, voice and video for enterprises and service providers. The company's network solutions feature high performance and high availability switching that deliver insight and control thereby enabling customers to solve their real-world business communications challenges.
