Mobile VoIP Provider Vyke Unveils Regional Portal for UK Customers

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Contributor

Technology has, in recent decades, shrunk our world considerably. Most businesses, even small ones, feel the pressure to compete globally. Many individuals and businesspeople travel internationally on a regular basis, or stay in touch with friends, family and colleagues across oceans.

All these international connections can get expensive. Luckily, some of the very technologies that made long distance communication possible are now making it affordable, too.

A year ago, VoIP provider Vyke Communications (News - Alert) began rolling out its Vyke Business services, which provide low-cost, pay-as-you-go mobile calling from most popular smartphones, including iPhone.

Vyke Business was initially offered to 20 corporate customers and 10 resellers in the U.K. and Norway, TMCnet contributor Jai C.S. reported at the time.

Now, Vyke is building on its successes during 2010 with the introduction of a new Vyke Mobile website geared specifically toward customers in the U.K. The region-specific portal supplements the company’s global site, “offering the same products and services, but with rates and offers specifically targeting the UK mobile VoIP market,” according to a Friday report from DMeuope. “The initial launch, to selected potential customers, will be followed up with marketing campaigns over the coming months.”

Vyke also has plans to roll out a similar site for U.S. customers, which will reflect the company’s recent experiences with marketing and outcomes of its business alliances with Bonjour Europe and BLS Tel Holdings, DMeurope reported.

It’s been a busy year for Vyke. In late August, the company partnered up with electronic payment services provider Ukash, to offer secure online billing for customers seeking VoIP-based communication systems, wholesale carrier network management or mobile handset technology.

The partnership allows Vyke “to enhance its platform by giving users the ability to experience Vyke VoIP without the need for a bank account, credit card or disclosing personal details online,” TMCnet contributor Anil Sharma said.

Earlier in the year, Vyke reported that its mobile VoIP services are helping users save as much as 98 percent on their international calls—doing away with roaming charges sticker shock.

“If you use BlackBerry, Nokia (News - Alert) or any Java based phones, you can download the latest version of VykeMobile for your smart phone, absolutely free of cost,” said TMCnet contributor Madhubanti Rudra in a March report. “This updated version of VykeMobile is designed for the private and business customers alike.”
