ViVu's VuRoom Brings Multipoint Videoconferencing to Microsoft LyncBy Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor ViVu’s VuRoom Multiparty Videoconferencing for Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync offers useful videoconferencing and business collaboration tools to users of Microsoft Lync, the company claims. VuRoom for Lync allows up to eight attendees to take part in videoconferencing, and unlike Lync videoconferencing – where only the person speaking is visible – VuRoom shows all attendees taking part in the videoconference at the same time. VuRoom also allows for adding participants who are not in the Lync network. VuRoom for Lync features low-latency desktop sharing with HD resolution and color fidelity, and onscreen file sharing that shows PowerPoint presentations, the company said. VuRoom was first released as a Skype (News - Alert) plug-in and used by Skype users for multiparty videoconferencing. But a Skype-based solution did not meet the security requirements from many enterprise users’ IT departments, says ViVu. "We received countless requests to make VuRoom available to the very large segment of the enterprise user community that has standardized on Lync," said ViVu's CEO Sudha Valluru. "Our new VuRoom plug-in for Lync delivers the high-quality video collaboration features users have come to expect from VuRoom, with built-in enterprise-level security and without requiring the addition of hardware or software components to the enterprise IT infrastructure." That means that VuRoom offers enterprise-level security without using additional proprietary hardware, and there is no disruption of a business user’s existing IT infrastructure, the company explains. VuRoom supports different HD webcams and video cameras, according to the company. It also integrates with SIP-based enterprise telepresence or video conferencing equipment from companies such as Polycom, Tandberg (News - Alert) or LifeSize. That way, users can employ their existing equipment. VuRoom comes enterprise-ready, says the company. It is available in SaaS (News - Alert) or on-premises configurations, the company adds. ViVu says it is compatible with PCs, Macs, Linux, mobile devices and the iPad. Ed Silverstein is a TMCnet contributor. To read more of his articles, please visit his columnist page.
