Openwave Traffic Management Solution Expanded by Bouygues TelecomBy Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor Bouygues Telecom expanded the existing Openwave (News - Alert) Traffic Management solution. Last year, Bouygues deployed the solution to manage and optimize its network traffic. The rapidly growing mobile data traffic will be managed with more dynamic control with this expansion. A diverse range of IP data flows for operational improvement and the delivery of new service offering will be controlled dynamically. An announcement in this regard has been made by Openwave Systems (News - Alert), Inc. A significant increase in data volume has been experienced by Bouygues. Due to the growing demand for mobile broadband services, Bouygues has experienced a change in the nature of its network traffic. Bouygues Telecom will be able to obtain better insights into network usage patterns with Openwave’s solution. The solution will also help Bouygues to define and anticipate new usage behaviors. With the growing network management needs of Bouygues, in-line billing, time and volume based service tiers and proactive service policy management can be provided by Openwave’s traffic management solution. IP data policies for Smartphone subscribers are being applied by Bouygues with Openwave’s traffic management solution. In a press release, Jean-Christophe Reversat, director of Core Network and Services Engineering for Bouygues, said, “Openwave’s solution serves as a central control point for Smartphone traffic mediation directly in the data path. With Openwave, we are able to apply dynamic application level policy rules through a rich set of data sources, including existing policy and traffic management systems, while effectively managing the overall cost of service delivery. Collaborating with Openwave ensures we are continuously improving the user experience and managing traffic growth for the long-term.” According to John Giere (News - Alert), senior VP of products and marketing of Openwave, deploying a cost effective flexible solution and scalable architecture is required by many operators. Based on a combination of contextual factors, the solution should allow the operators to apply complex policy and charging rules in real-time. At an optimum total cost of ownership, the solution should provide the required scalability for future growth. In a press release, Giere said, “Bouygues Telecom’s selection of the Openwave Traffic Management solution underscores the operator’s confidence in our platform and serves as a good illustration of how Openwave products can deliver on this by intelligently marrying TCO, flexibility and performance expectations.” Calvin Azuri is a contributing editor for TMCnet.
