Latest Version of Ericsson IPTV Remote Comes to US Market

Ericsson, a global provider of technology and services to telecom operators, launched the latest version of the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV (News - Alert)) Remote for the United States market. The announcement on U.S. debut was made at SCTE Cable Tec Expo held in New Orleans held Oct. 20 to 22.

 This announcement follows the company’s achievement in winning “Best IPTV Technology” at the CSI (News - Alert) Product of the Year Awards at IBC in Amsterdam in September.

Ericsson's IPTV Remote is designed to enable consumers with a single interface to control live broadcast TV, on-demand video, Internet video, photos, audio and any media stored on a personal computer or device with storage capabilities.

The latest version of Ericsson (News - Alert) IPTV Remote includes a touchscreen so that the consumer can intuitively browse different sources of media, as well as preview and organize playlists.

The Ericsson IPTV Remote is a device for controlling the TV and other media devices throughout the connected home. This device, as stated, is a single interface for controlling Internet video, the TV, both live and on-demand, the PC and the mobile phone in the home. The device can also function as a portable TV in a WiFi (News - Alert)-enabled home.

"It is clear that people want to access their social networks, surf the web and channel hop while watching TV on their sofas. The remote controls of today are limited and not adjusted to enhanced searching activities like this," Staffan Pehrson, head of Solution Area TV, Ericsson, said in a statement.

"We're happy with the recognition our IPTV Remote has received and believe it has the capability to change the way remote controls look and how consumers interact and consume media going forward," Pehrson added.

 The Ericsson IPTV Remote is part of Ericsson's IPTV solution.

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) is a non-profit professional association providing technical leadership for the telecommunications industry and serves its members through professional development, standards, certification and information. SCTE Cable-Tec Expo is the industry’s engineering show which hosted thousands of annual attendees and provided the opportunity to discover and learn first-hand about the latest in cable technology, products and services.
