Just how important is VoIP in today’s market? If you take a close look at user trends and corporate environments, a move to all-IP is making it clear that VoIP is here to stay. To get an idea of the role HelloSoft plays in this space, TMC’s Rich Tehrani talked with Allan Johnson (News - Alert), SVP of Marketing & Business Development at HelloSoft in an interview captured in this video.

One thing Johnson highlighted is that his company was doing VoIP 10 years ago and this dedication in a market that was not quite ready for VoIP is now paying off now. HelloSoft (News - Alert) offers a lot of products and a strong portfolio. They are celebrating successful business after 10 years.

The company’s target audience includes end point devices and associated client technology, video share, etc. Its technology may be deeply embedded or a carrier version of a Skype (News - Alert) on a laptop and everything in between. HelloSoft works with chipset companies, carriers, OEM, etc.

“We did VCC when the standard was just being formed,” Johnson said.” We actually did the world’s first major carrier trial with VCC. We’ve done numerous implementations, all the way from enterprise based deployments to carrier-based deployments. VCC has become increasingly important in an environment where 4G is being rolled out.”

While VoIP on a 4G is a given, it will be a while before all calls are experienced over 4G as the infrastructure is not yet there. The calls need to be able to work over any network and work well.

With the need for large data capacity with iPhones and other devices, data delivery is very important. HelloSoft has extended applications for data continuity. They supply technology that can handle the handover and work with the carrier for reliable communications and data delivery, which is very important in the bandwidth crunch.

What’s next for HelloSoft? Johnson noted that technology is perfected when it is transparent. They are now focusing on bringing out the technology in applications like social networking. They are an enabler and they want to enable these applications to extend their reach in the market.
