Sipera Raises Funds to Develop Smartphone, VoIP Security Platforms

To combat with constant security threat on communication device, the large established technology companies are focusing research and development, along with merger, acquisition, and partnering strategies, to aggressively develop new security products.

Sipera Systems, a provider of real-time Unified Communications (News - Alert) (UC) enablement and security, announced today it has closed a funding round of $10 million. This round was led by S3 Ventures, and includes participation by prior investors Austin Ventures, Duchossois Technology Partners (DTEC), Sequoia Capital, and STAR (News - Alert) Ventures.

This funding will collect total sum of $48 million for Sipera and the company has planned to utilized this fund develop smartphone UC security solutions and UC-Sec enterprise UC security product family.

Some part of this fund will also be used to generate more sales in Asia, Europe and South America, and to support an expanded reseller partner program. The funding will also enable Sipera (News - Alert) to expand its relationships with the next-generation communications eco-system, including establishing new OEMs with leading UC vendors and supporting bundled VoIP and UC solutions from system integrators and communications service providers.

Brian R. Smith, managing director of S3 Ventures stated that by building on its existing customer base, channel sales program, global presence, and products and services, Sipera is well-positioned to increase sales and continue to secure critical business communications for enterprises around the globe.

Sipera President and CEO John Lochow (News - Alert) said that the company has seen a major spike in demand for its UC security solutions, including its smartphone security offering that enables an enterprise to securely manage VoIP and UC on an employee's smartphone in any location and this new investment scale to meets the global demand, support channel partners, increase international presence of the company to provide the highest levels of service to enterprise customers.
