VDIworks Intros VideoOverIP

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

VDIworks, a provider of virtual desktop management and enablement products, has announced the optimization of VideoOverIP desktop remoting protocol for Hyper-V. This latest solution is positioned as bringing paralleled user experience to Microsoft’s (News - Alert) Virtualization Platform.

"VDI technology certainly delivers reliability, power and cooling advantages to a manufacturing concern like ours. But what we gain in these areas, we can't afford to lose to a poor user experience," said Andrew Cooper, President & CEO at Tyrex Manufacturing Group, in a statement.

VideoOverIP is designed to be completely hardware agnostic so users are not tied down to a particular brand of server or Thin client. This solution can be installed quickly and independently in Hyper-V hosted VMs without the need for any additional software infrastructure.

"We are extremely pleased with VDIworks' VideoOverIP protocol because our Hyper-V VMs are now able to provide truly high-end display capabilities. With VideoOverIP, our VDI systems are not only well managed, but as snappy and seamless to our end users as a fast desktop PC," said Cooper.

VideoOverIP is aimed at enterprise users requiring discovery, connection brokering, Thin client management and other advanced features as it works in concert with VDIworks’ end-to-end management platform, VDP. Aside from its support of VideoOverIP, VDP will continue to discover, manage and broker additional protocols, such as HPs, RGS, Teradici’s PC-over-IP, Microsoft RDP and others.

"Today VDIworks provides extensive support for Microsoft infrastructure, with the VDIvision System Center plug-in, VDP support for Hyper-V and through our other products", said Amir Husain, President and CEO of VDIworks. "We believe VideoOverIP's high-performance capabilities when running on Hyper-V will go a long way in improving the end-user's virtual desktop experience."

VideoOverIP is being positioned as pioneering a new level of flexibility and configurability to allow users to tune protocol performance for their specific environments. The solution deliver multiple compression algorithm choices and also buffers sizes to be adjusted to enable improved synchronization of audio and video.

Last fall, VDIworks announced the introduction of VDIworks2Go, designed to help the mobile workforce to capitalize on the use of virtual desktops. As professionals are becoming more mobile, both inside and outside of their respective companies, they need access to desktop tools that allow them to get their job done, as well as to integrate with other network applications. With this latest solution, VDIworks should enjoy greater demand for its solutions.
