Network Instruments Debuts GigaStor Portable RNA Device

By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributor

Network Instruments, a provider of network troubleshooting and analysis solutions, has reportedly released the second-generation GigaStor Portable Retrospective Network Analysis (RNA) device with a storage capacity of up to 4 TB and a new larger RAID system.

"Going offsite used to mean network professionals were forced to leave behind powerful analysis tools for a laptop with simple packet-capture software," said Charles Thompson, product manager of Network Instruments (News - Alert), in a release.

"GigaStor Portable gives network professionals the power of RNA in a self-contained, transportable appliance, so you plug-in and perform immediate analysis regardless of the location," added Thompson.

As there is increased network complexity and bandwidth demands, network administrators require versatile monitoring and analysis tools to quickly troubleshoot business-critical operations and monitor security and compliance. Retrospective Network Analysis (RNA) tools allow IT professionals to quickly browse through massive amounts of network traffic to reconstruct a failure. Due to its ability to significantly reduce the mean time to resolution (MTTR) for teams resolving sporadic performance problems, RNA has emerged as the standard method for network troubleshooting.

The company also clarified that the newly launched GigaStor Portable can be deployed to any remote location to collect and save weeks of packet-level data, which it can decode, analyze, and display. The appliance, as stated, quickly sifts through data, isolates incidents, and provides extensive expert analysis to resolve issues.

"As performance troubleshooting challenges increase in complexity, customers continue to rely on our solutions to meet their changing needs," said Roman Oliynk, co-founder and chief executive officer at Network Instruments. "With the second generation GigaStor Portable, not only have we doubled storage capacity, but capture and analysis speeds have dramatically increased."

GigaStor Portable analyzes traffic across multiple network topologies, including gigabit, 10 Gb, WAN, and wireless. The unit contains all required cabling, a dual quad-core processor Windows XP Pro x64 system, built-in, 15-inch active matrix display, keyboard, and trackpad; and options of 2 TB or 4 TB total storage.
