Polycom Taps Video and Networking Industry Expert to Boost Sales

By Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

Looking to enhance company sales, a Pleasanton, Calif.-based company that offers telepresence, video, and voice solutions provider, has added a new technology and sales leader to its team.

Polycom, Inc. recently hired Andrew M. Miller as executive vice president of global of operations. In his new role,  Miller is in charge of leading a global sales operation of nearly 700 professionals, channel partners and strategic alliances, the company said.

Miller, pictured below, is particularly well known in the IP networking industry for his strategic vision, sales track record, and his ability to manage high performance teams to drive market share growth, the company said.

Robert Hagerty, Polycom's (News - Alert) chairman and chief executive officer, called Miller a “driven leader” and said he will bring deep experience to the company.

“His leadership capabilities will clearly play a key role in driving future revenue and competitive gains for Polycom, while further increasing the strength of the Polycom management team,” Hagerty said in a statement.

Miller led top sales organizations and drove growth in upper management roles for industry leaders, including Cisco and Tandberg (News - Alert). He held various posts during his 28-year career with a background in global expertise across the enterprise, service provider and government. In addition, Miller also held posts in organizational management including operations, marketing, strategy, manufacturing and engineering, according to Polycom.

“Polycom is at the forefront of capturing the momentum of the UC market space," Miller said in a statement. "As a result, it is a tremendously exciting time to be a part of Polycom. With our unparalleled brand, strategic partnerships, channels and product solutions, I believe Polycom is uniquely positioned to deliver our customers the significant benefits of telepresence and HD video and voice solutions."

The company is looking to ramp up sales as telepresence solutions become more popular. In a down economy, businesses are looking to tighten costs. The solutions also help organizations better compete and address the so-called “green trend” by reducing the corporate carbon footprint, Polycom said.

Polycom recently hosted an event to demonstrate the importance the technology is playing in the global environment. At its ‘UltimateHD Fest,’ customers and partners had the ability to interact with Polycom executives on a show floor of an industry event in Orlando, Fla. using telepresence solutions. The fest linked participants from regional events in Austin, Texas, New York, Sao Paolo, Brazil, and Santa Clara, Calif., the company said.
