Mitel, VMware Team Up For Virtualization, VoIPBy Vivek Naik, TMCnet Contributor Mitel (News - Alert) has announced that it entered into a contractual agreement with VMware, an EMC2 company, to provide collaborative solutions that improve efficiencies of real time voice applications and computing resources for organizations of all sizes.
"We look forward to working with Mitel to provide joint solutions that leverage virtualization in new ways, providing the best place for customers to run real-time applications," said Parag Patel, Vice President, Alliances for VMware. “Our joint solutions will be designed to provide unparalleled efficiency and value to customers at both the telephony application layer as well as the platform layer." Officials at the company claim that this joint effort is another significant step towards enabling customers to leverage industry standard servers to maximize space, optimize IT resources, reduce power, and deliver business continuity. "Mitel's communications software approach easily adapts to a virtualized environment," said Stephen Beamish (News - Alert), Vice President Business Development and Marketing for Mitel. The company had previously partnered with a financial institution to provide its combination of Mitel Navigator and Your Assistant to deliver a platform for high-performance environments like financial trading, a combination that allows for centrally managed applications so all traders can be mobile. The current tie up with VMware helps clients to operate the Mitel Communications Director software and Mitel real-time voice applications in a virtualized data center environment. “VMware's position as a global leader in virtualization and Mitel's leadership in voice applications globally, makes real-time applications virtualized in the data center easily accessible to businesses,” said Beamish.
