SpinVox's Speech-to-Text Conversion Service Offered to Telefonica Customers in Latin America

SpinVox (News - Alert) has announced that its speech-to-text conversion service is being deployed as a network service through an additional 12 countries in Telefónica’s mobile operations across Latin America.

 

SpinVox service is expected to be available to all Telefónica’s mobile customers in the region, including Argentina; Colombia; Ecuador; El Salvador; Guatemala; Mexico; Nicaragua; Panama; Peru; Uruguay and Venezuela.

 

All these companies are expected to offer the service as will Vivo, Telefónica’s joint venture with Portugal Telecom (News - Alert) in Brazil.

 

This latest announcement builds on the October 2008 announcement from SpinVox and Telefónica’s Movistar Chile of the launch of the first speech-to-text service in Latin America.

 

Christina Domecq (News - Alert), CEO and co-founder of SpinVox, commented that this contract is a “landmark deal,” that it demonstrates the sort of Tier 1 Carrier-grade scalability that only SpinVox can provide.

SpinVox is the only speech to text service that is available in six languages - Spanish, English, French, German, Portuguese and Italian. Company officials said that SpinVox has configured its voice message conversion system (VMCS) to convert the local variants of Spanish and Portuguese spoken in each country in Latin America.

 

Luis Miguel Gilperez, director for Mobile Business at Telefónica Latinoamérica, said that providing the best customer experience is a key objective of everything the company does, and that is highlighted with the announcement of this partnership with SpinVox.

 

“Our customers will be able to receive via SMS all their voicemail messages, and, from the callers’ point of view, they will leave messages with the security that they will be delivered in a few minutes directly to the recipient as a text.”
