Veracity Overhauls Network Infrastructure to Accommodate VoIP Growth
By Erik Linask, Associate Editor, Internet Telephony magazine
Growth in IP-based services is continually evolving, and users are constantly looking for new features and services — and service providers must meet those demands to secure their position in an increasingly competitive market.
The need to evolve and expand service offerings, however, often results in the inevitable need for service providers to invest in their own infrastructure in order to accommodate new service delivery requirements. This includes switches, servers, gateways, and other network components that have been purpose built for efficient, reliable next generation IP-based service delivery.
The network upgrade project was what Utah-based Veracity Communications recently undertook, looking to ensure it would be in a position to meet the evolving needs of its customers. Veracity offers broadband voice and Internet, as well as T1 and fiber lines. In order to ensure it would be able to continue to evolve its service offerings, Veracity looked to Sonus Networks ( News - Alert) for a network infrastructure overhaul.
Among the primary reasons for the network upgrade, according to Veracity, was the growing popularity of its digital voice service — which is hardly surprising, given the worldwide VoIP adoption rates for both consumers and businesses. In order to accommodate its growing subscriber base, and to ensure it could always provide high quality calls as well as broadband Internet, is chose Sonus.
“Sonus’ platform, in particular, the ASX Feature Server, allows us to roll out a robust set of services that give users personalized control of their telecommunications service, including enhanced privacy and options that support greater productivity,” said Drew Peterson, president of Veracity.
Sonus has a history of developing reliable IP networking platforms for service providers, and Veracity looked to leverage that expertise to support next generation service bundles for its residential and SMB subscribers.
With Sonus’ GSX Open Services Switch, ASX Feature Server, PSX Call Routing Server, SGX Signaling Gateway ( News - Alert), and the Sonus Insight Management System in place, Veracity is now able to effectively meet the telephony and Internet needs of its existing customers. It can also add subscribers without fear of overexerting its infrastructure, as Sonus’ equipment has been time tested in high-capacity, high-volume networks world wide.
